GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

The Canal and River Trust paid us a visit, with a whole school assembly and a special early years themed event. They shared some fantastic ideas and guidance to keep our families safe.

Year 1 went on a school trip to the British Motor Museum. Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their time dressing up as bus drivers, riding on a 100-year-old bus and investigating the first ever car. Here are some pictures of the cars we observed and the costumes we dressed up in.

To enhance our STEAM learning this term our Year 1 class visited the British Motor Museum at Gaydon. The class had the chance to investigate lots of different motor vehicles and see how they have developed over time. They even got to sit in the vehicles and get dressed up. pic.twitter.com/RknBFOOynI

KS2 competed in their second House Competition of the academic year. The challenge involved orienteering, searching for puzzle pieces with the aid of a map of the school grounds. However, it wasn’t that easy. There were lots of challenges to earn their puzzle pieces to begin with

PTA

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The Cherry Fields PTA are parents and staff members who arrange fun events in school to bring together the school community and help raise funds to support the children and the school in various ways.  We would like to raise funds to support school trips and enrichment activities, as well as contribute to equipment or materials for our children to benefit from.

We’ve had several exciting events to date, such as a Halloween Disco, Bake sales, Movie night, Christmas Fayre, just to name a few. Our most successful fundraising events have been the 2022 Sponsorship event and the Christmas Fayre. In 2022, we were just shy of raising £3000.  The children have benefited from a hockey set for the school, sensory room equipment and a contribution for the play that was held at school by the Cherwell Theatre Company.  The remaining funds are available to support future events, as well as our goal of contributing a substantial portion of the funds needed for a trim trail for the pupils, which will help them develop balance, stability, coordination, gross motor skills, strength and climbing confidence. This year we would also like to raise money to contribute to the costs for a theatre trip for the pupils.

Forthcoming events:

Summer Fair (12th July). More to follow.

How to get involved:

We are always looking for new members or new ideas, so if you would like to get involved, please do ask at the school office, or email us at the contact details below. You wouldn’t necessarily have to commit to every event, but every now and then some extra help would be greatly appreciated.  Fundraising ideas are always welcome.

We are all volunteering our time so the more help and ideas we have, the more successful fundraising events we can arrange and ultimately, the more opportunities we are able to offer our children.  We’d like to kindly thank all parents and teachers for their continued support.

Meet the committee:

  • Chair – Luaine Bandounas
  • Deputy Chair – Gina Martin
  • Treasurer – Carla Axtell
